Detecting hyperkyphosis
Although back pain can be due to various causes, recurrent back pain should always be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
It is possible to detect spinal deformities such as hyperkyphosis with the naked eye.
Here are some visual indicators of hyperkyphosis:
- Forward projection of the head
- Rounded shoulders
- Stooped posture and rounded back (more obvious when observed from the side with the patient leaning forward. The deformity is located at the most pronounced part of the hump)
